Words are-impossible creatures-
That won’t be trained or ruled-Careful-‘cause-they bite.
Fabricated @ Fablab Manchester
Is finished …for now.
Took an hour to engrave the Word part as a Raster pdf using a laser Cutter
Took 40 minutes to cut out the holes part, as a vector pdf using a laser Cutter
I have the idea, its almost there ,just need some extra consideration, either there are two different types of materials for the two separate pieces, or its the same material but “processed differently”,and what does doing either make a difference ?
I haven’t figured it out yet,but I given myself a day to do this, and to finalise the design to be Laser Cut either in Acrylic or Paper.
Intend to have it cut on Friday, need to check they have the really thick Acrylic in store or else have to buy some.
After that design will be developed in sketchbook and then final document created in Illustrator to be used by Laser.

WHAT SIZE HOLES
Test piece for laser cutting tomorrow, for “Words piece”,do a number of trials to find the right size.
Poem ” Words” (Installation experiments)
A pin is used to prick out the thought process, will eventually become a dual layered installation, the pricked sheet will obstruct text which is unreadable, but still there.
The idea is to represent my thought process of finding the right words and struggling to express myself, the pin pricks become the brain desparately trying to make the throughts connect , the paper is a physical barrier which prevents the artist trying to express exactly what she ‘s trying to say, behind the paper is the written words she’s trying to reach.
It is hoped that the final installation will be at least 2 to three metres in lenght allowing a number of participants to experience what I experience everyday, but as much as they peer through the holes and search for the words and try to make sense ,they are faced with the same issue that I have of trying to make the words connect since it will be near- impossible to see all the text even if they peer through all the pricked holes, because the words are still jumbled.
The point of the work is to create an interactive installation which explores the frustration the artist has to deal with a cognitive disability and what it actually feels like.

Below the typography element of the poem”words” which I’m hoping will be either carved in wood as a solid mass ,or become a vinyl on the wall,to accompany the word installation which will be a large sheet of paper perforated to symbolic of the struggle of representing thoughts into words, and whilst the carved type is the elusive word captured before it escapes, the mind of teh artist
Directly above ,is the final illustration which will be cut out of wood,or possibly etched onto glass,I’m not sure how the equipment, will find out what’s possible tomorrow.
